THE ART IN PRISONS PROGRAMME

The Art in Prisons Programme is an initiative aimed at providing inmates with access to various art forms including visual arts, music, and theatre. The programme, a Sumanasa Foundation project done in partnership with the National Law University of Delhi, seeks to offer a safe space for inmates to express their artistic abilities and learn new skills that could aid them post-release.
The programme was officially launched in June 2023, at Puzhal Central Jail, Chennai, inaugurated by government officials and included performances and an art exhibition. The program also aims to generate income for inmates through the sale of artworks and performances.
